CONSERVATION OF MOMENTUM is designed to reveal and conceal its own nature- conceptually and physically. The piece is hand wound and set by the weight of it's fuel tank. Its demure composure depends on the existence of fuel in a chamber. Without the presence of fuel, the mechanism inside this sculpture, comprised of hand made triggers, brakes, spindles, pulleys, clutches, springs and levers, releases compressed leaf springs into a centrifugal force. The artwork transforms. A red cloak is cast out, fully draping the piece. By design, as long as the sculpture's tank has fuel the cloak remains lifted.
CONSERVATION OF MOMENTUM conceptually speeks to society's over dependency on oil.
