HANGING IN BALANCE is hand wound and triggered by a small piece of ice. Initially, the sculpture's structure is in a state of equilibrium. The fixed A-frame supporting the free floating body is contingent on a piece of ice remaining frozen. The sculpture "hangs in balance" until the ice's state starts to return to water, triggering springs of 1800 lbs pressure into action. The figure alters itself from a dynamic to static sculpture when exposed to a temperature above 28 degrees .
